All aboard! Maud Burggraeve takes us on a kinky ride.
Every journey begins somewhere. For Latex Angels, Fetish Express begins on an old-fashioned railway platform, with the sound of a powerful steam engine approaching and a latex-clad conductor ready to welcome you aboard. We sat down with lead vocalist Maud Burggraeve to discover the inspiration behind one of the band's most provocative tracks — and the music video that brought the whole concept to life.
A train full of possibilities
The idea for Fetish Express began with something surprisingly ordinary: the sound of a passing train.
“I wanted to do something with trains myself,” Maud explains. “Especially the older steam trains. They're powerful, imposing machines, and I think that fits Latex Angels quite well!”
But the train became more than just a musical inspiration. For Maud, it also offered the perfect metaphor for discovering something new.
“For many people who are just discovering their fetish, it feels like a journey into something new and unknown. So we'd love to take you along on our Fetish Express!”
And who better to guide that journey than Maud herself, playing the latex-clad conductor?
“I'd be happy to guide you along the way,” she laughs.
Steam, speed and a little temptation
Despite its cheeky lyrics and provocative imagery, Fetish Express isn't simply a party song. Its driving rhythm is an essential part of the concept.
“We wanted to keep the tempo and the drive going, just like a roaring steam train gathering speed,” Maud says. “And of course, we always look for a balance between humour, sexuality and the powerful image of Latex Angels.”
That sense of movement shapes the entire track. It begins with the anticipation of a train approaching the station, its engine puffing and steaming as passengers wait on the platform. Once the journey begins, the momentum keeps building.
“For me, the whole structure works really well,” Maud explains. “You start on the platform, waiting for the train. You can almost see it standing there, steaming and puffing, ready to go again. And once you're on board, the tempo keeps going.”
It's a musical journey designed to make the listener feel as though they're part of the ride.
The conductor is in control
As the song's conductor, Maud has a clear idea of how she would welcome her passengers.
“Of course, I have to keep a strict eye on things during the journey,” she says. “But I also want everyone to enjoy the beautiful, sometimes challenging experience with a sense of wonder.”
That combination of authority and invitation reflects the spirit of Latex Angels: confident, provocative and always in control of their own world.
Yet beneath the underground atmosphere and taboo-breaking imagery, there's a welcoming message.
“Fetish and kink have always had a certain taboo and underground flair around them. That's part of the vibe and the excitement, of course, but everyone is welcome to discover this beautiful world.”
For anyone curious about latex, Maud has some practical advice, too. She's all for giving it a try, but encourages newcomers to do a little research beforehand.
“I'd encourage everyone to give it a chance. But take some time to learn about it first, so your first experience goes smoothly and without problems. It would be a shame if one bad experience immediately put an end to your interest.”
From the platform to the screen
Fetish Express also holds a special place in the band's history: it was the first Latex Angels song to receive an official music video.
The video opens at an old-fashioned railway station, complete with steam, smoke and a latex-clad conductor played by Maud herself.
Given how closely the visual concept connects to the song, stepping into the role felt natural.
“It felt quite natural because we helped develop the concept and the look of the video ourselves,” she explains.
Rather than simply performing a character, Maud was helping bring the band's own creative vision to life — from the atmosphere of the station to the distinctive look of the conductor.
The beginning of the journey
As the opening track of the album Fetish Express, the song has a purpose beyond delivering a memorable riff and a provocative chorus. It's an invitation to discover what Latex Angels are all about.
“I hope listening to this song triggers people to embark on their own journey of discovery into the world of fetish and latex,” Maud says. “And since it's the opening track of the album, I also hope it encourages people to discover the rest of our music.”
So, whether you're already familiar with the world of latex or simply curious about what lies beyond the platform, Maud has a message for you:
The engine is running. The conductor is ready.
